Sport Psychology –
Code of Ethics
1.
With a
partner, develop a “Code of Ethics” for Summit High School Athletics. The
following are questions you should consider:
a.
List our school “mantra”. (Statement or slogan of our school) “Who we
are”
b.
What is our school culture?
c.
Do we have issues with our current contract?
i. Do
students follow it?
ii. What
percentage violate it?
iii. Is
there anything wrong with our code of conduct?
If there is, what can we do about it?
iv. Can
we enforce our “Code of Ethics”?
v. Why
should we have one?
1.
Aren’t athletes just kids? They are going to make mistakes. Isn’t that okay?
2.
Are sports supposed to teach ethics or just how
to play better?
3.
Is it okay to have a code of ethics that is
different from the other High Schools in our area?
4.
Will parents “buy in” to the code of ethics?
5.
Will athletes?
d.
Can we expect our athletes to have higher
ethical standards than our non-athletes?
Should it be the same for both?
Check it out as a guideline for your code of ethics.
