Psychodynamic Theory. Id, Ego, Superego

Hello folks!

Please go here:https://www.simplypsychology.org/psyche.html

Read about the Id, Ego and Superego.  Then, do the following!

  1.    In your own words, describe a person's "Id".
    1. Your definition.
    2. Examples of what the "Id" is.  (Personal or fictional)
  2. Same thing with the Ego.
    1. Definition
    2. Example.
  3. Superego
    1. Definition
    2. Example.
Your writing should be a paragraph for each.  Your examples might be a little longer as it might be detailed.

Finally, what does this have to do with sports?   Give me an example of how this could play out in a team setting.

I'm Alive - Andes Plane Crash survival story

  1. What was the message in the documentary that had the biggest impact in your thinking?

2.  "They say that in the toughest of times, you develop character, in actuality character is revealed".   What does this mean?   How does Nando display his character?

3.  How is it that in the face of "certain death", Nando and Roberto were able to persevere and continue across the Andes?

4.  What situation in your life has been difficult to overcome?  How can you "persevere" in the face of certain failure...pain...suffering...?

5.  Come up with your own mantra.   Who are you?  What are you about?  What could you say about you...your commitment....your personality?   For example:  "I am fierce. I will fight through anything".

6.  During the film, one of the scientists says that "Nando had a remarkable sense of resilience".  What does that mean?   How did Nando demonstrate "resilience"?  Do you believe that you have resilience?

7.  In the film, Nando states:  "The only way to go forward is that you can't go back".   Explain this thinking.

8. Is it possible for you (or us), to get our brains to start to believe that we can only go forward?  Can we program our brain to operate like Nando's?  Give me an example if you can.

Sport Psychology Course Syllabus

Sport Psychology
Classroom Management Plan
Mr. Turnbull

A.  Course Overview:  Students in Sport Psychology will gain an understanding of concepts and applications of the psychology involved with sport competition.  Students will be expected to understand psychology terminology and basic concepts as they relate to sport.  Attendance is vital as classroom/Webex participation in discussion directly applies towards the final grade.

B.  Grading:  Students will be expected to maintain a minimum of 75% on all terminology exams, as terminology is vital to success.  Students will also be assessed after each unit of instruction.  Point values will be assigned for each unit.   A final paper will be assigned midway through the semester.  Homework will be given on occasion. (If below an “A” there will be regular homework)

You will be graded on a percentage basis:       90% - 100%                A
                                                                        80% - 89%                  B
                                                                        70% - 79%                  C

Make up work will be allowed for any “excused” absence and should be completed within five days.  **Most of you will be athletes.  You can always do this work on the bus.  My assignments are not difficult (although we do have two bigger assignments that will take some time).

C.   Classroom Rules and Procedures:  The rules and procedures of Sport Psychology are simple and should be adhered to at all times.

Rule 1:  You are expected to listen with your ears and eyes to the instructor.

Rule 2:  You are expected to be on time to class.

Rule 3:  You are expected to be courteous and respectful of all people in class at all times. **This includes Webex etiquette.

Consequences:
Any conduct that deviates from this will not be allowed.  Consequences for not following the rules will be:
  1. Verbal reminders
  2. Removal from area
  3. Call home
  4. Detention
  5. Office Referral
I ___________________ have read and understand the classroom management plan for Sport Psychology for the 2020/21 school year.

With the iPads, I will not be doing weekly grade checks.  You are responsible for your own grades.  If you drop below an "A", you need to see me!  There is absolutely NO reason to get less than an "A" in this class.  It's interesting, it's fun, and it's personal (at least it should be).  Why would you get any less than an "A"?  :)
